Student Testimonials

Our students have written personal testimonials to describe the value that LIFE Wirral has given to their education and their personal growth.

I have been to four high schools in total. In each one I was bullied in some type of way. For example, getting locked in the toilets, getting messages online saying ‘Go kill yourself’ etc. In each of these schools I was told that I was worthless, a waste of space and I was nobody. Some of the bullying was not from pupils it was from teachers which is why it is so hard for me to trust teachers now.

I left my third high school in January 2021 and my mental health massively declined, I thought to myself I am not going to find a school anywhere so I may as well just go. Then I was introduced to LIFE, LIFE turned my whole world upside down. Life was not easy to get in to, waiting an entire year to get into LIFE was hard and challenging but so worth the wait.

Everyone and every place you got to has its challenges and this is the same at LIFE however we work with each other to resolve any problems or issues.

LIFE is so much different to any other school I have ever been to. I get to learn my GCSES and do sports that I think I am useless at, but I try my hardest in everything. In my previous schools I never felt accepted for who I really am but that has all changed now.

Now I go into LIFE knowing that I am guaranteed to laugh my head off, forget about all my outside of school worries and learn new skills and things. The simple things like my science lesson with Racheal; we laugh, talk but we still get work done. I used to leave school thinking I am going nowhere, but now I leave LIFE and I know I am making a difference in my life and to all the people who told me I was not good enough can sit and watch me absolutely smash their opinions.

I joined Life in May 2022 after going to a few other schools that didn’t really work out for me.

I love sport and at LIFE we try a variety of games such as handball, football, cricket, rugby and dodgeball.

The ultra-active afternoons really help me get my energy out after mornings in the classroom.

My teachers are brilliant and the pastoral team have really helped me learn how to manage my emotions and behaviour.

Something I like about Life is that we get more time to settle into lessons which makes me feel more comfortable and ready to learn.

When I first started at LIFE I knew what I wanted to achieve in the future - but, to be honest,I didn’t know what steps to take to enable me to get there. Since joining the school I have a much clearer plan going forwards and with help from our sports psychologist I have managed to learn how to channel my extra energy into something positive for my future.

Currently I am studying three A-levels and the teachers are great at adapting their teaching style to suit a pupil's individual needs.

The sports provision at LIFE is like no other, it is almost certainly unique. We have access to a state-of-the-art performance centre and also an onsite gym staffed by a team of highly -qualified strength and conditioning coaches and sports psychologists.

As a result, I am learning the importance of nutrition, recovery and dealing with setbacks. I have also improved my strength, power, speed and agility, dramatic progress which has resulted in me becoming an Irish Exiles rugby player.

I had been to two schools before I came to LIFE. I was on the verge of being excluded from the first one. I never believed that  they were treating me correctly so my mum thought it was best that I move on. I spent five years at my second school and by the time I was in Year Eight I was facing the very real prospect of failing all my GCSEs; the staff were simply not helping me.

Also the school was not very sports-orientated either, it was football for the boys and netball for the girls and that was it. I never regarded the school as being particularly pupil-friendly and in 2020 I thought it was the right time to leave. I decided to move to LIFE.

Ever since I moved to LIFE my grades have gone up and I have started to enjoy school again. The teachers here are amazing and like the pupils they do actuallyenjoy being here (I hope). They make lessons interesting and always have a laugh. One of the main reasons I came here was for the sport which is great; it’salways different and we specialise in a different discipline every term. The school allows me out early every Monday so I can take part in my main sport of rowing. I am so grateful for that.

If you get the chance, go to LIFE Wirral - it’s amazing!

Before I came to LIFE, my education was never really in place, put simply, it was going nowhere. Previously, I had been to seven different schools but none of them lasted for very long or were full time. I’ve been living on the Wirral for just over a year now and this is already the fourth school I've attended.

Before I came here I had attended two mainstream schools in Wigan but neither comes close to comparing what I have found at LIFE. My time at mainstream schools was deeply unhappy and totally unrewarding.  One decided to move me on after just three days whilst another repeatedly excluded me  before eventually asking me to leave. Sadly, they just didn't have a clue how to deal with me - or even talk to me in a respectful way to which I would have responded positively.

I’ve been at LIFE for ten months and whilst that might not sound a great period of time it is my longest spell at any school. I’m full-time and have come in everyday without complaining, something which has never happened to me before as I used to always moan about school and never enjoy it. I admit that in the past I used rebellious behaviour to show I didn’t want to be where I was. No teacher ever had faith in me so I simply started to believe that I was going nowhere. Consequently, my behaviour completely changed and I would  be short-tempered, get distracted easily, fail to attend classes and refuse to do my work.

Here in LIFE it's completely different - this school has changed my view on education and made me want to learn. I do now feeling as though I am actually going somewhere, making solid and meaningful progress. The teachers here believed in me from my first day - I don’t think I would be the person I am now without them.

Although I’ve come from a different background to everyone else at LIFE there’s no judgement here and everyone just accepts you for who you are. Being at this very, very special school has made me realise just how much I needed tochange how I acted and behaved. I feel like a new person - a better person.

LIFE is definitely the best school I’ve been to by a distance. Since arriving I have returned to playing rugby - stepping out of my comfort zone to take on the Union code.

LIFE is probably one of the best things that could have happened to me and I don’t know where I’d be without it. I am so grateful to all the staff for helping me to realise my true potential.

Anthony's Testimonial

I was bullied in my past  two schools and, sad to say, it actually made me hate the whole idea of education for a long time. In fact, things were so bad for me that I was kept out of school for a year and nine months before I came to LIFE. This is a school unlike any other -this place has changed me and I don’t want to miss a single day! It is so different to my past schools where I would happily have missed every day. Previously I hated both the subjects and the staff but here it’s the complete opposite - I love the teachers, the subjects and my fellow students. I don’t know what I’d do without it because there is nowhere else for me to go. I’ve been to visit different schools but they seemed to have little respect or politeness and the pupils looked aggressive. LIFE is a brilliant place to learn, the staff care so much about your education. The subjects and timetables are great and the way they plan things out is also fabulous - plus, they even have their own mascot, PUDDLES THE DOG!The sporting sessions are spectacular with football, basketball and other sports in the garden; sometimes we even go to different places to play these sports. Cooking is one of my favourite subjects. I love LIFE I would recommend It to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

At LIFE I really like all sports in particular playing Football.

I love the common room area because it’s really good for socialising, playing pool and you can have lunch in there which is very relaxing and enjoyable. The teachers are better than my old school.

They have time for you and they are very supportive and fun to be around.

At LIFE there are good opportunities to get a job and get included in sporting teams.

LIFE is better than any other school I have been to and I enjoy coming every day!
