TES
Awards

Life Wirral's inclusion on the shortlist for the TES Best Inclusive School in the UK for 2023 is a significant milestone for our young institution.

We take immense pride in this recognition, knowing that it validates the exceptional work we do for our students. It was a brilliant evening celebrating our school being recognised as one of the best inclusive schools in the country!

We are so thankful to all of the brilliant people at LIFE who have put tremendous efforts in to make our school the fantastic school that it is.

So far we’ve had some pretty amazing stories from our students and we hope to help plenty more children in the years to come.

Physical Activity and Mental Health Connection:
Engaging in physical activity has been consistently linked to improved mental health. Walk and talk therapy harnesses the positive effects of exercise, promoting the release of endorphins and reducing stress hormones. This physical component complements traditional talk therapy by fostering a more relaxed and open atmosphere, making it easier for students to express themselves.
Nature's Therapeutic Influence:
Enjoying the beautiful outdoors we are lucky to have in New Brighton exposes students to the healing power of nature. Nature has been proven to reduce anxiety, improve mood, and enhance overall emotional well-being. The combination of movement and nature creates a calming and rejuvenating environment, fostering a deeper connection between the students, teachers and our mental health team.
Break from School Settings:
Walk and talk therapy offers a departure from the normal school setting, allowing students to feel more comfortable and less intimidated. The informality of walking side by side with their teachers can reduce the perceived power imbalance, encouraging open communication. This change in environment can be especially beneficial for students who may feel restricted or overwhelmed in a conventional environment.
Enhanced Creativity and Problem Solving:
Physical activity has been linked to increased cognitive function, including creativity and problem-solving skills. Walking and talking simultaneously can stimulate different areas of the brain, potentially leading to fresh insights and perspectives. This can be particularly beneficial for students facing academic or personal challenges, as it may help them find innovative solutions.
Promotion of Healthy Habits:
Integrating physical activity into therapy encourages the development of healthy habits. By associating positive mental health practices with movement, students may be more likely to incorporate regular exercise into their routine.
